4. COVID-19 - Club Guidance for Managers

You can download a PDF copy of this guidance below.

1. At all times everyone should follow current government guidance relating to COVID-19

2. Only outdoor football is permitted

3. Maximum training group is 30 including coaches. Normal FA safeguarding requirements apply

4. Team officials must socially distance at all times except when administering first aid

5. Before every session or match all players and team officials must self-assess using https://bit.ly/ccyfccovid

6. Team officials must keep an attendance register either via the Pitchero Manager app or using the attendance form provided

7. In addition to self-assessment, players trying out must provide details before attending their first session by registering at https://bit.ly/ccyfctr

8. When not directly engaged in competitive training or match play, players must continue to practice social distancing (e.g. on touchline, during breaks, before and after sessions)

9. Spectators must be in groups of six or less and follow social distancing as per government guidelines

10. Hand washing remains one of the best methods for preventing transmission of infection. Wherever possible, everyone should be washing their hands before and after training sessions, matches and whenever first aid is administered.

11. No-one who has symptoms of illness is to attend training or matches

12. No-one who has been in contact with anyone who has shown symptoms of illness is to attend training or matches

13. If anyone in a players’ household has been told to self-isolate then that player is not to attend training or matches

14. Parents and/or players may not currently wish to take part in training or matches for a variety of reasons – this must not disadvantage their position in the team in the longer term. Lockdown and the fear of contracting an infectious disease has had a wide variety of impacts on individuals and their domestic and social circumstances and we must not add complication to that. Instead we should be offering football as an outlet and encourage a return when the parent/player feels ready to do so.

15. Players must bring their own hand sanitiser and use it when directed to do so by coaches/managers – before and after each session and when there is a break.

16. Goalkeepers must bring disinfectant spray for their gloves and use it when directed to do so by coaches/managers – before and after each session and when there is a break.

17. Footballs and any other equipment used during sessions must be disinfected before and after sessions and when there is a break

18. Equipment sharing must still be minimised

19. In contact training or match play, footballs and goalkeeper gloves must be disinfected whenever there is sufficient break in play e.g. half time, drinks break, goal scored.

20. Drinks breaks should also be hygiene breaks

21. Player to player contact is permitted in the context of training and match play, but at all other times normal social distancing restrictions apply. This includes before and after sessions, and during sessions when not specifically engaged in contact scenarios

22. Although contact is permitted it should be minimised

23. The following are not permitted
a. Goal celebrations
b. Huddles
c. Shaking of hands
d. Sharing of water bottles
e. Sharing of equipment (except for footballs in contact scenarios)
f. Spitting or mouth rinsing
g. Shouting

24. During training players should not be encouraged to get too close to other players unless contact is expected e.g. going in for tackle. Close marking is not considered compatible with social distancing but being realistic we know it will be hard to prevent, however players should avoid actual person to person contact except for tackles

25. Free kicks and corners should be taken promptly to prevent long close-marking scenarios. Defensive walls are permitted but set-up time should be minimised.

26. If a ball goes out of play it should not be retrieved by a non-participant and wherever possible only feet should be used to retrieve the ball

27. Spectators should avoid shouting as it increases the risk of transmission of infection in close proximity situations

28. Players must wash their kit and clean and disinfect their boots after every session. Players must not attend training or matches with dirty kit or boots.

29. First aid should still be administered where necessary as participant health and safety is of paramount importance. Full PPE should be worn, including face mask, gloves and apron. Please check and ensure you have these items in your first aid kit now. Not later.

Above all, players and team officials must recognise that maintaining social distancing practices is a sign of respect for your teammates and your opponents. It will feel odd and uncomfortable but at present it is the only way in which we can enjoy football.
