The boys travelled the long trip to league opposition Walsham le Willow. An excellent set up of a club with a number of junior and senior pitches, a 4g training facility, club house and the main floodlit pitch. The boys were on th main pitch (which meant the travelling supporters were sheltered in the main seated stand.
The boys had Cam back in goal, Gabe got a deserved start at right back. With Alex at left back and Hayden at Centre back. Tennie, Billy and Luke started a strong centre mid with Joel and James on the wings. Sam and Reece started up front.
The first 20 mins for fairly even with Sam having a headed chance save and Reece getting close to a cross/shot from Joel. But Walsham finished the first half with 15 mins that changed the game. 2 similar goals coming from the tricky Walsham right winger pushing forward an finding the striker for tap ins and a mistake by Joel loosing his man for a 3rd made it difficult for City to get back into the game.
In the 2nd half Hayden had a great chance to score from a corner, but his header went over.
Ed replaced Alex, and Kyran replaced Reece. Kyran did test the Walsham keeper, but the save was fairly routine. Walsham did have chances to extend the lead but on 2 occasions the winger chose to shoot rather than pass.
Sam and Luke were close, but Gabe had a solid game at right back and was awarded player of the match.
Lets hope next week the boys get back to winning ways in the County cup v league rivals Bishop Stortford.
