Chelmsford city whites began their season with the visit of an experienced Broomfield side. The first half began at a great pace and both teams exchanged early blows, with chances a plenty coming at either end of the pitch. The visitors took the lead after quarter of an hour and this seemed to knock the wind out of City's sails for a few minutes, and a second goal followed for Broomfield before the break.
Despite being behind at the break city were still upbeat and began the second half the better team. However a swift counter attack from the visitors saw them take a 3-0 lead. Chelmsford still continued to push forward and soon added a goal of their own, Tom Hunter lobbing the keeper with a well judged chip from inside the box. This seemed to spur on the hosts and pushed forward looking to add more goals. The hard working Emmanuel Tshinene was brought down on the edge of the box when clean through on goal, and when the free kick came to nothing, the visitors broke and added a fourth goal. Two more were added before the final whistle which flattered the visitors.
Much work to be done in the coming weeks, but a very promising start for Chelmsford's new look team.
